How much do I have to charge for my car?

It is difficult to pinpoint exactly how much it will cost to charge your electric car at any time. The charging cost of electric vehicles depends on:

Battery size

Range of electric vehicles

The unit price of electricity

Charging an electric vehicle at home is usually much cheaper than using a public charging point.

If you have a night saver meter, it's cheaper to charge your car at night. The cost per kilowatt-hour is about 15.4 euro cents. However, on a normal meter, the unit rate is about 31 euro cents per kilowatt-hour.

The cost of fully charging an electric car is even one-tenth of the price of a box of fuel. For example, charging at home at night usually costs about 9 euros from completely dead to fully charged. Of course, it will depend on your electricity unit price.

How long does it take to charge my electric car?

It ultimately depends on the type of battery in your car and where you charge it.

If you use a public fast-charging point, your battery can reach 80% of its power in about 30 minutes. Drivers often use these quick charging poles to charge their car batteries on long trips.

For a 40kW battery, a standard 7KW household charging pile can power an electric vehicle from 0-100% within 3-5 hours.

However, for vehicles with a battery capacity of more than 60kW, the charging time will be longer. This will be done in 6-8 hours.

If you decide to use a "Trickle Charger" plugged into a standard socket, it usually takes at least 18 hours to charge an electric vehicle.
